Sauna Building Ideas in the Basement

Nowadays, the sauna is a popular choice for relaxation.  Not only does it refresh you but it also releases toxins in your body cleaning it from the inside.  What’s sad though is that not many people can afford to go to the sauna.  First, saunas are only available at your expensive spa facility in which case, you have to set aside some money from your finances to allow you to regularly visit the spa.  Lately, more modern gyms are also offering sauna facilities but then you’d also end up paying expensive membership dues to use them.  However, the good thing about that is you can combine your sauna experience with a fitness regimen to really take advantage of your gym membership.

The good news is this.  It’s now possible to build your own sauna in the comforts of your own home.  Before, building a sauna in the home can entail prohibitive costs and it’s more practical to just go to the spa when you need to.  But because sauna manufacturers have now introduced do-it-yourself sauna kits that are relatively affordable for the regular homeowner, you now have the privilege of going to the sauna anytime you feel like it.  What’s more, since the sauna is right in your own home, you don’t have to worry about privacy or the hygiene which you normally have to contend with in public saunas.  If you have ample space, you can even build it so that the whole family can enjoy the sauna together.

Before you go out and buy your d-i-y kits, you have to make sure that the space in which you’re fitting your sauna is already prepared and that it’s simply a matter of laying out the materials which you’ll get from a do-it-yourself kit.  Some of these kits may come in pre-cut sizes, either using the wood slats as the frame of reference or the wooden benches which they come with.  If your flooring or wall height does not fit into the measurements, you may need to frame the walls first and then specify your actual measurements to the manufacturer for them to cut these pieces to suit your measurements.  If you’re doing this project yourself, you need to take the following into consideration:  heating source, electrical wiring, door frame (to prevent the heat from getting out of the sauna room), ceiling materials, lighting fixtures and proper ventilation.

If you’re not too confident about your abilities in building your own sauna, you have to hire a professional to do the job for you.  Not only do they know building requirements (which you definitely have to follow or else incur penalties) but they’re also more experienced with the work and they may even accomplish it much faster than you.  Remember at the end of the day, the important thing is that you have your own sauna to pamper yourself with anytime you need to.  The money you invest will not only increase your house value but will prove to be an enjoyable home addition for many years to come.
