Home Gym Ideas
In this day and age where everyone is becoming health-conscious and turning into a fitness buff, most people are starting to create their own gym area in the comfort of their own homes. Though admittedly, it can strain your finances when you want to build your own gym at home, especially since you have to invest in the gym equipment and the possible remodeling of your home to accommodate said equipment, it still beats going to the (nearest) gym.
The basement is a good spot for recreating your own gym. Its cement flooring is a good base for the equipment. It’s more stable than wooden floors; it’s sturdy and less prone to scratches. You also have some semblance of privacy while exercising because you’re relatively insulated from the rest of the house.
This seems to work best for people who feel embarrassed to be working out in public. At least, when they’re in their home gym, they feel more empowered to pursue their fitness regimen. What’s also good about building your home gym in the basement is that you don’t have to spend too much to remodel. The basement can be as plain and stark as you want or if you want it to feel where you’ll be motivated to work out then you can also design it as you see fit.
There are important issues to consider when converting your basement into a home gym. First, you have to make sure that your basement is moisture-free. Moisture and dampness can wreak havoc on your equipment. You wouldn’t want your investment to go to waste, so you have to make sure that walls and flooring are waterproof prior to bringing your equipment in. Hire a professional building contractor to do this for you. It may cost a little more than when you do it yourself but at least you know that you won’t be plagued with a recurrence of the problem over time. Plus, they know about building code requirements so you won’t have a problem about safety and following the law.
Another issue is safety in your basement home gym. No matter how good your basement looks but if you’re not safe while you’re exercising, it’s not worth it. The ideal floor covering is rubber flooring. It reduces the risk of slipping while exercising and it provides a good base for the equipment. Should you want to use carpeting, make sure that there’s no moisture seepage and that they can withstand the humidity that comes from perspiration and heat expelled from exercising. A telephone is also an indispensable equipment to put in your basement home gym in cases of accidents.
Last but not the least, the success of your workout is dependent on how motivated you are during your gym time. Design and decorate the basement home gym with bright and cheerful colors. Install a wall of mirrors so you can also monitor your movements. Install effective lighting fixtures to ensure adequate illumination to the room. Personalize your space with decorations, like posters and calorie charts, or even something as simple as plants to spruce up the place.
